Select the right seeds for seasonal veggies

Julie Ruf of Greenhouse Garden Center will offer a free seminar on "Selecting the Right Seeds for Great Seasonal Vegetables," 1-2 p.m. Sunday at 2450 S. Curry St.

Ruf was a seed representative for Botanical Interests seeds for several years, and her years of experience and knowledge will help gardeners select seeds.

Democratic women sponsor cleanup

A spring Highway 395 cleanup is a co-ed opportunity to show civic pride is set for March 20. Rain would cancel the event.

Meet with the sponsoring group, Carson City Democratic Women's Club, at 8 a.m. in the parking lot of the Carson Lanes Bowling Center, 4600 Snyder Ave. Bring gloves and a pick-up tool. Water and safety vests will be provided.

Auditions planned for annual Senior Follies

The Carson City Senior Citizen Center will hold auditions for the 2011 Senior Follies production, "Let's Go to the Movies."

Anyone who is older than 50 and loves to sing, dance or act may join this year's production as Carson City is taken on a journey through the movies.

Auditions for singers, dancers and actors will be at 6:30 p.m. March 16 at the Carson City Senior Citizen's Center, 911 Beverly Drive. Those interested in performing a particular song, dance or act from a movie should come to the auditions prepared to perform the number or skit.

Performances will be July 23-24 at the Carson City Community Center. Rehearsals for this production will begin in late March and will be held 6:30-9 p.m. every Wednesday at the senior center.

Amateur radio license testing available

Regularly scheduled testing sessions for Amateur Radio licenses are now available in Stagecoach. The first session for 2011 will be March 12.

Registration will be from 8-10 a.m. The testing will end around noon. Pre-registration is encouraged, but walk-ins are also welcome. The exam fee is $15 with checks made payable to ARRL-VEC.

Testing is always on the second Saturday of March, June, September, and December of each year. The remaining exam schedule for 2011 is June 11, Sept. 10 and Dec. 10.

Testing will take place at 8755 Cimarron Trail, the intersection of Apache and Cimarron. Signs will be posted.

To upgrade an existing license, bring an original license and a photocopy of that license, as well as the originals of any CSCEs. There are no copying facilities on site.
