130 YEARS AGO

Wells Fargo runaway: The horse which pulls the Wells Fargo express wagon ran away. Boys seeing the horse with no one in the seat, started up yelling, and the horse broke into a gallop towards the Ormsby House corner running four times around the block. The wagon contained the U.S. mail and $20,000 and four bullion bricks. The rumor spread along the street that $20,000 in gold coin had been shaken out of the wagon and a number of men with lanterns were scrutinizing the street for coins.

Kimberly Orlanda, Carson High School senior, won the honor to represent the school in the 54th Annual Lions Club Student Speaker contest. The theme - "Peer Pressure - Can You Say No?" Runner-up was Kristy Crabtree.

Nevada census shows explosion - Increase from 1990 to 2000 - Carson City 29.71 percent, Clark County 85 percent, Washoe County 33 percent.
