Woman jailed in pedestrian hit-and-run

A Carson City woman remained in custody Monday charged in a hit and run last week in which she allegedly ran over a woman twice in a grocery store parking lot, then fled the scene.

Rebecca Katherine Beebe, 23, is being held in the Carson City Jail on suspicion of felony hit and run with injury, misdemeanor drunken driving, failure to render aid, driving with a suspended license, driving without a valid license and failure to report accident.

According to the arrest report about 6:25 p.m. Thursday, a shopper at Save Mart on Highway 50 East was walking from the store to her vehicle when a black 2001 Dodge Dakota, driven by Beebe, backed into her body. As the woman tried to get to her feet, the Dakota backed up again into her.

A witness reported she went to the driver's side of the vehicle and attempted to get the driver to stop, but Beebe instead left. Others at the scene memorized the license plate number as the Dodge left, the report states.

The victim was taken from the scene by ambulance. The extent of her injuries was not detailed in the report.

Police were able to locate the vehicle and Beebe at a home on Monte Rosa Drive.

The witness, who had attempted to stop the Dodge from leaving the parking lot was taken there and she positively identified Beebe as the driver, the report states.

Beebe's bail was set at $40,000.
