LAS VEGAS (AP) - Nevada Republican Rep. Joe Heck is being targeted by national Democrats in a new ad campaign focused on Social Security and Medicare.
A spokesman for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee announced Wednesday a media attack against Heck comprised of newspaper ads, automated phone calls, live phone calls and emails to residents in his Southern Nevada district.
National Democrats say Republicans want to undermine Social Security and Medicare to help trim the federal budget and that Heck supports the effort.
Heck's spokesman Darren Littell says the proposed changes would not impact current recipients of those programs.
Heck has been slammed by national Democrats since before his election in November, when he took the seat from Democratic Rep. Dina Titus.
The DCCC is also targeting other Republicans across the nation.
On Tuesday, Heck said he would support former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney if he entered the race for the GOP nomination for president.
