LAS VEGAS (AP) - A federal court has postponed arraignment of a former aide to Nevada Sen. John Ensign on charges that he illegally lobbied the Republican senator and his staff.
Court records show the arraignment of Doug Hampton was moved from Thursday to Monday in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C.
Hampton's court-appointed lawyer requested the delay to give Hampton time to travel from his home in California. The lawyer also asked the court to pay for Hampton's travel.
Hampton was indicted March 24 on charges alleging he lobbied on behalf of two Nevada companies in violation of federal law prohibiting a senior aide from lobbying the Senate for one year after terminating employment.
Hampton became a lobbyist after Ensign had an affair with his wife.
