Construction set to begin on office building at South Creek

McKenzie Properties of Reno is preparing to start construction on the first office building at its South Creek retail, medical and office center at South Virginia Street and Foothill Road.

The 5,435-square-foot building is the fourth in a project that's planned to include 70,000 square feet in nine buildings, said Todd McKenzie of the development firm.

The start of construction on the office building comes as Los Compadres, a Reno restaurant, prepares for a summer opening of a second location at South Creek.

The Mexican restaurant will be next door to Squeeze In, the third location that opened in April for the Reno-based restaurant company. Together, the two restaurants occupy all of a 7,782-square-foot building.

Yosh's Unique Deli, meanwhile, opened last week in a 7,782-square-foot retail building that faces Foothill Road. The building already is home to Beauty Zone, a salon and retailer of beauty products, and Whispering Vine Wine Co.

South Creek is anchored by The Grove, an 8,000-square-foot special events center. The Grove, which got a marketing boost from hosting a farmers market last year, again will host the market on Sundays from May 29 through Sept. 18, McKenzie said.

The office building, which is marketed at a lease rate of $2 a square foot, has drawn interest from medical professionals who want to be within easy access of Renown South Meadows hospital, McKenzie said. Construction is scheduled to begin in June with completion set for late this year.

In marketing the property, McKenzie points to a daytime population of 8,500 at 537 firms within a mile radius of the site as well as strong traffic counts in the area of Highway 395, South Meadows Parkway, Foothill Road and South Virginia Street.
