No Smallpox among the Washoe: Captain Joe greatly objects to having his people quarantined. There is no smallpox among his tribe. The Captain feels very indignant. Before Whites settled here, the Indians never were afflicted with smallpox, rheumatism, and other complaints that follow in the wake of civilization.

Horses locoed: Henry Schmidtline, of Kingston, reported an alarming state of affairs among his, and his neighbor's horses in Smoky Valley. The trouble is poison from loco weed ... already 10 of his best animals have been lost.
