Mammovan to stop in Carson City

Many women in rural Nevada have never had a mammogram. Fear, lack of funds, transportation conflicts, or lack of insurance are the main reasons women have not taken the step to protect their health with this breast cancer screening process. Yet, we know that early detection of breast cancer saves lives.

The Mammovan will be visiting Smith's Food and Drug Store, 599 E. William St., Carson City 7:45 a.m.-5:15 p.m. May 15-16, offering mammograms to geographically isolated and uninsured women.

Through the support of several organizations, mammograms will be available by appointment at no charge for those who are age and income eligible.

The Mammovan is a program of Nevada Health Centers, and the mammograms are supported through generous grants from the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Northern, the First Lady's Fund, The David and Linda Shaheen Foundation, Smith's Food & Drug Stores, Inc., Safeway Foundation, The Harrah's Foundation, Inc., and the Women's Health Connection Program.

Insured, uninsured, Medicare and Medicaid women will be served.
