Bill allowing sale of park names gets floor vote

(AP) - Assemblywoman Marilyn Kirkpatrick of North Las Vegas is giving a reluctant nod to support a bill that would allow cities and counties to sell naming rights to locally-owned parks and facilities.

Kirkpatrick told the Assembly Government Affairs Committee on Wednesday she has previously voted against similar measures.

She says municipalities are going to take a hard hit over the next two years and SB384 may help them keep some at-risk programs in place.

Kirkpatrick says she expects passionate discussion preceding the floor vote. She urged lawmakers to keep tabs on the decision's impact between legislative sessions to determine if it was in the public's interest.

The bill would not affect facilities named after historic figures.
