Tonopah's DanRa Skanovsky was crowned Miss Nevada 1961 during the half-time of the Senator-Bobcat game which resulted in a 12-6 victory for the mighty Carson Senators.

Cape Canaveral, Florida: Astronauts Joe Engle and Richard Truly inspected the space shuttle Columbia, "Everything is looking beautiful" for the unprecedented attempt to return the ship to orbit.
