130 YEARS AGO

Football: While two young Indians were playing football in East Belmont (near Manhattan in Nevada) they discovered a stocking partly filled with gold coin. It was divided between the men, women and children of the Shoshone tribe. Estimated to be about $700. The Indians have been very flush since the discovery.

120 YEARS AGO

Revival: Revival services at the M.E. Church. All interested in the good morals of the people and the salvation of souls are urgently requested to be present.

70 YEARS AGO

Roll of honor: The following pupils have made an average of B plus or more during the first quarter of school ending, November 7, 1941: (in part) 1st grade: Roger Glanzmann, John Meder, Michael Shaughnessy, Edward Stokke, Elizabeth Bliss, Harold Rupert, Dixie Lee Freeman, Ellen Giurlani.

50 YEARS AGO

Rainmaker: Edmond Jeffery predicts there will be rain within a 100-mile radius of Reno. He has set up his rainmaking equipment and is using a "rediscovery" process using hydrogen with oxygen to "trigger" Mother Nature. So far there has been no rain.

30 YEARS AGO

The space shuttle Columbia was ordered to return home three days early due to the failure of one of three fuel cell generators. Astronauts Joe Engle and Richard Truly were scheduled to bring the big winged spaceship to a gliding landing at Edwards Air Force Base in California.

10 YEARS AGO

Yucca Mountain: The state unconditionally denied the federal water application stating the proposed use for the water was detrimental. The applications are critical to supporters of the nuclear dump which can't be built without water.
