A Carson City couple was jailed early Friday morning for allegedly taking advantage of the Black Friday shopping madness and attempting to steal more than $800 in merchandise from Walmart.
Phillip Ryan Dunkin, 28, was arrested at 5:22 a.m. on suspicion of felony burglary, grand larceny and misdemeanor possession of burglary tools. Lindsay Ann Hammers, 22, also of Carson City, was arrested on suspicion of felony burglary and grand larceny.
According to the arrest report, while Black Friday was in full swing, security officers with Walmart on Market Street allegedly spotted Dunkin and Hammers collecting various items from the electronics and jewelry sections of the store.
The duo then allegedly went to the toy section, cut open a large dollhouse box and removed the dollhouse. Hammers "acted as a lookout" while Dunkin loaded the empty box with the merchandise they'd selected, then taped the box closed, the report states.
The two then selected other items, which they left out in the open in their cart, and went to check out, paying for the cost of the dollhouse and the other items in their cart, the report states.
Upon exiting the store, Dunkin was arrested. Hammers was arrested inside the store.
When Hammers was placed into a patrol vehicle, "she immediately started to cry and said it was 'all his idea,'" the report states.
Each is being held on $25,000 bail.
