130 YEARS AGO

With a little liberality on Carson businessmen the proposed races can be made a success. Jack Sweeney, lessee of the Carson track, is willing to give total privileges to the Jockey Club for trotting races Oct. 20-21. It is proposed to make the purses as liberal as possible.

100 YEARS AGO

Doc Winnie, who yesterday made a trip around Lake Tahoe, states that he proved to be a good sailor. The lake was rough as the high wind could make it and of the 50 people aboard the pleasure steamer, all but a half dozen managed to hold down a place at the table. Doc says he had more fun than he has experienced in many moons.

70 YEARS AGO

The Nevada Day Kangaroo Court is in session to raise funds for Nevada Day by the Carson City 20-30 Club. The "court" is a cage of iron, pipe and wire mesh built on the roomy bed of a truck. Al Sutherland, who appears to be "boss" of the court said the roundup of Carson's beardless men will start at 4 this afternoon with Ross Gold, Dick Waters Jr., Bob Clark and Dan Franks. They will drive up and down the street and "catch as catch can."

50 YEARS AGO

Whether to include sidewalks or not in the 1961 improvement district was the main point of discussion at the city council meeting Friday. Other business included the hiring of a new police officer.

20 YEARS AGO

All seven members of the Carson City School Board may have to run for re-election in the next general election. The election follows a 1987 law requiring all offices to be up for election after a redistricting.

10 YEARS AGO

Carson City transportation planners are looking into the widening of Roop Street from two to four lanes to ease the city's chronic traffic congestion.
