130 YEARS AGO

We have been shown something curious in the way of rock, which if interested, can be seen at the office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction. The rock is from the east wall of the Comstock. The specimen shown is from the Overman mine, taken out at a depth of 2,000 feet. It has a gray, cold, dingy appearance, but with sunlight it assumes a greasy appearance, permeating the rock. Can someone enlighten us on this strange geological freak?

100 YEARS AGO

A fire yesterday at Susanville totally destroyed the plant and buildings of the Lassen Mail, which has been published for the last 25 years at Susanville. It is the second fire in Susanville in the past week.

70 YEARS AGO

The Carson City Senators will play their first home football game tomorrow against the Fallon Green Wave. The Fallon team is riding high after last week's 7 to 6 win over the Reno Huskies.

50 YEARS AGO

Kathy Ann Owens of Carson City is named Miss Nevada. She is a member of the Pep Club, Girl's League, Choir, likes reading, listening to good music and roller skating.

20 YEARS AGO

The 1991 Centel Phone book in Las Vegas will appear without brothel ads. It is illegal in Nevada to advertise houses of prostitution in areas where it is prohibited.

10 YEARS AGO

Natural gas customers may get some relief this winter. Southwest Gas is asking the state Public Utilities Commission to lower rates by $51.6 million.
