Bobby Bridger to perform at BAC

Get a jump start on Nevada Day weekend by celebrating the history of the West. The Brewery Arts Center will host an evening of storytelling, singing and dancing that captures the spirit of the Wild West at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Performance Hall.

Bobby Bridger, a multi-talented singer-songwriter-poet-actor-playwright, will headline the evening with his performance of "Lakota."

Lakota is part of Bridger's renowned Ballad of the West Trilogy, which uses verse and song to tell the stories of the Mountain Men, William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody, and the Lakota Sioux people.

Fans of Western and American Indian history will enjoy the ballads in this one-man show, which features the stories of the Indian Wars era, Red Cloud and the Fetterman Massacre, the Battle of Little Big Horn, the deaths of Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull, travels with Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show, and the Massacre at Wounded Knee.

Bridger is a master story teller who has been called "the Shakespeare of the West." He has appeared numerous times on national TV, including ABC's "Good Morning America" and NPR's "Austin City Limits."

Joining Bridger are two other acts. Dancer Gabe Hardin will perform traditional American Indian dance. Hardin has been dancing most of his life and traveled the Western U.S. and Canada. He has perfected his style of dance and has become a top champion dancer.

The "Nevada Young Chief Singers" also will perform.

Tickets are $18 for non members.

Meet Bobby Bridger in person on Friday, Oct. 28, at a reception and a signing of his new book, "Where the Tall Grass Grows; Becoming Indigenous and the Mythological Legacy of the American West." The reception takes place at 2 p.m. in the BAC Artisan Store, 449 W. King St.
