Pack up Fido and head for James Lee Park

Douglas County's Dog Park is celebrating its one-year anniversary at noon today in James Lee Park.

The Douglas County K-9 Unit will give a demonstration of its skilled K-9 officers, followed by large- and small-dog dashes.

There will also be several vendor booths, demonstrations by Carson Valley Vet on microchipping, and blood donor information. The American Red Cross will offer canine first aid and CPR. The Douglas Animal Welfare Group (DAWG) is holding a blanket drive, asking all who are able to donate a blanket for the Douglas County Animal Shelter.

Critter Collar will be on site with custom-designed collars. Poopy Lawn Scoopers, Pets of the Homeless and other local rescue agencies will also be stationed inside the dog park.

A pooch poker walk begins after the races, followed by a dog show with categories including cutest puppy, best senior, best vocal performance, best trick and best behavior. All participant winners will be awarded prizes.

Pre-registration to enter the dog show, poker walk or races is requested.

Registration forms may be found at www.indianhillsnevada.com under Recreation Department; at the Indian Hills General Improvement District office; or Saturday at the park. Indian Hills GID Dog Park is at 3394 James Lee Park Road, Carson City. For more information call, 267-2805.
