Preps: Dayton knocks off Fallon

Dayton lost the first game before rallying to beat Fallon Friday night in 3A volleyball action.

The Dust Devils prevailed 25-27, 25-18, 25-16 and 25-20. Leading Dayton was Madison Foley with four aces, 21 kills, 14 digs and a block; Tarynn Schriner with 17 digs; Ashley Vickers with five kills and four digs; Erin Edison with six kills, nine blocks and a dig; Cora Jeffreys with an ace, 39 assists and a dig; and Cassie Depew with nine kills and six blocks.

Coach Monica Halverson was happy with the team's play as it improved to 8-8 in league.

"We played extremely well," she said adding the entire team contributed to the win.

Dayton hosts Fernley starting at 6 p.m. Thursday before playing Fallon to close out the league season. The matches are important for the Dust Devils who are in midst of a playoff seeding battle.

JV Football

The Carson JV football team used a balance offensive attack to roll to a 54-19 win over Spanish Springs Friday night.

Carson had rushing touchdowns from Nevin Elliott ( eight carries for 131 yards), Anthony Estrada (11 carries for 75 yards) and Austin Shaffer (six carries for 34 yards). Austin Kiesow rushed seven times for 40 yards.

In the air, Garrett Schafer was 13-for-21 for 252 yards and four touchdown passes. He connected with Elliott on a 55-yard score; and hit Gehrig Tucker for three scores. Tucker had six catches for 140 yards.

Shaffer also had five catches for 42 yards.

Defensively Shaffer had 12 tackles at linebacker; Elliott added eight tackles and a fumble recovery from his nose guard spot; Andrew Cooper had 10 tackles; and Jesse Knight had eight.

Aaron Perez played a solid corner for the Senators and Cody Cunningham was around the ball all night from his linebacker spot.

The points allowed to the Cougars were the first points allowed at home all season by Carson.

Carson, 7-0, plays at Galena on Thursday.
