IHOP gunman's brother arrested

The brother of the Carson City man responsible for the a mass shooting at the IHOP last month has been jailed on domestic battery charges in South Lake Tahoe.

Police were called at 2 a.m. Sunday to the 2500 block of Elwood Avenue in South Lake Tahoe on a report of a domestic disturbance, according to police Sgt. Shannon Laney. When they arrived, they found a 29-year-old woman with bruising and swelling on her left eye and blood on her shirt.

The victim reported that her live-in boyfriend, Sencion Gonzalez, 38, battered her during a verbal argument, according to Laney. Sencion Gonzalez reportedly fled before police arrived. Laney said the victim also reported being in fear from further physical violence from Gonzalez due to him having a "deteriorating mental state."

An arrest warrant was issued for Gonzalez, and at 9:30 a.m., police found him hiding in the bathroom at Montbleu Casino in Stateline. With help from Douglas County sheriff's deputies, Gonzalez was taken into custody without incident. No gun was found.

Sencion Gonzales is listed along with his brother Eduardo Sencion, 32, on partnership paperwork for the family-owned Mi Pueblo Market in South Lake Tahoe. The paperwork lists Sencion Gonzales' address as being in the 2500 block of Elwood Avenue in South Lake Tahoe.

On Sept. 6, Eduardo Sencion opened fire at the IHOp restaurant in Carson City and opened fire, shooting some 60 rounds from a fully automatic weapon. Four people were killed and seven injured before Eduardo Sencion fatally shot himself.

Investigators said Eduardo Sencion was diagnosed as schizophrenic when he was 18.

Laney said Sencion Gonzales' girlfriend reported that he'd become increasingly upset since his brother's death.
