A Dayton woman will appear in court Sept. 14, charged in a January accident in Stagecoach that claimed the life of one and injured another.

Jessica Lynn Sanchez, 37, was arrested at her home on Aug. 2 on suspicion of felony driving under the influence of a controlled substance causing death; driving under the influence of a controlled substance causing substantial injury; reckless driving causing death; and reckless driving causing substantial injury. She is being held in the Lyon County Jail on $40,000 bail.

A toxicology report indicates Sanchez had 670 nanograms of methamphetamine in her system about 11 p.m. Jan. 28 when she drove her Mercury sedan west in the eastbound lanes 7 miles east of Dayton, according to court documents.

Under Nevada law, a person is considered impaired when driving if their blood contains 100 nanograms per milliliter.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, Sanchez's vehicle colllided head-on with an eastbound Ford Tempo, killing passenger Carole Marie Ernst Caron, 51, of Silver Springs, and critically injuring driver Cindy Leon, 32.

Leon and Sanchez were taken by helicopter to the trauma center in Reno.

The Carson City District Attorney's Office is handling the case for Lyon County because Lyon County prosecutors just tried Caron's husband in an unrelated case.
