DUI checkpoint set for Monday

The Carson City Sheriff's Office will operate a drunken-driving checkpoint on Monday, Labor Day, from 6 p.m. to midnight on Fairview Drive.

Deputies will check drivers for alcohol consumption, not wearing seat belts or not having a driver's license, said Sgt. Darrin Sloan.

He said this is the second DUI checkpoint of the summer, and six others may come up in the next nine months.

"We know people are going to be drinking and we don't want them to drive. That's the purpose of this checkpoint, to keep everybody's family safe during the three-day weekend," said Sloan.

Overtime for this event is paid for by the Office of Traffic Safety, Department of Public Safety.
