Counterfeit money: $10 pieces are being circulated in San Francisco. The coin is quite light in weight but well executed that none but experts could tell at first sight. A microscopic examination reveals that the formation of the letters on the reverse side is not perfect.

Runaway: A buggy team from the Holstein ranch ran away and took two awning posts out of a porch in front of the Bullion and Exchange Bank. No injuries.

70 YEARS AGO

Advertisement: "Carson Theater: Come in and howl" with Jimmy Cagney and Betty Davis in 'The Bride Came C.O.D.'"

50 YEARS AGO

Daylight savings: Nevadans will get an extra hour of sleep September 24 when Daylight savings time, in effect since last April, ends and residents turn their clocks back one hour. Nevada will take this step in harmony with neighboring California.

20 YEARS AGO

The University of Nevada System regents approved a plan to reduce spending by $7.7 million by not repairing campus buildings.

10 YEARS AGO

Nevada has a lower poverty rate than the national average. U.S. Census Bureau estimates show 188,979 Nevadans, or 10.5 percent, were living in poverty in 1998.
