130 YEARS AGO

Kicked by a horse: A boy about six years old was kicked on the side of the face by a horse belonging to his father. Master Charley was playing with the animal and threw a cat on him which frightened the horse so that he let drive with his hind feet. The wound is a painful and ugly one, but no bones were broken.

120 YEARS AGO

Redemption: The Bicycle Club has at last redeemed itself by electing to its foil of members - the ladies. The following riders were elected - Mrs. Wm. Stone, Misses Carrie and Virginia Belknap, Neva Wilson, Mattie Murphy and Bertie Thaxter - all of whom are able to glide the streets with any of the gentlemen riders.

70 YEARS AGO

Governor Miller is considering a delay in state pay raises as a way to avert a pending budget crisis. Raises could be made on a retroactive basis if the economy improves.

Over 4,700 people are missing in the ruins of the World Trade Center. President Bush promised to come to New York to "hug and cry" with its shaken citizens.
