All sorts: Wm. Crisler, formerly conductor on the V. & T. R.R., has been appointed Master of Transportation on the C. & C. R. R.

James G. Chesley caught seventy trout in Marlette Lake in fishing two hours.

The great show: McMahon's Circus is in town for two exhibitions. Quite an interest is being manifested, among them Jo-Jo, the original Russian dog-face boy. Queen Jumbo, the largest elephant in the world, will come in for a fair share of attention.

70 YEARS AGO

Seen, Thought, or Heard: Tourists and other persons have paused to read the wording of the plaque the University of Nevada Press Club under date of May 5, 1940 placed on the street wall of the Appeal Building. Of the things for which Robert H. "Bob" Davis is noted for "I Am the Printing Press" [in part]:

"I am the printing press, born of Mother Earth. My heart is of steel. I sing songs of he world, the oratories of history, the symphonies of all time. I am the voice of today, the herald of tomorrow. I make the human heart beat with passion or tenderness. I stir the pulse of nations, and make brave men do brave deeds. I inspire the midnight toiler, weary at his loom, to lift his head again and gaze, with fearlessness, into the vast beyond, seeking the consolation of a hope eternal."

50 YEARS AGO

Washington: Dr. Linus Pauling, Nobel prize-winning American scientist, predicted that 140,000 persons now living would die of fallout effects from the previous nuclear tests in the atmosphere.

20 YEARS AGO

Clark County Health District reports 20 cases of AIDS were reported during August, a new monthly record for the area. Total deaths in Clark County total 374.

10 YEARS AGO

According the Superintendent Mary Pierczynski, Carson City high school enrollment increases by 330 more students. Last year the district had 8,433.
