A former Carson City emergency room doctor and convicted kidnapper waived extradition Wednesday and will be returned to Arkansas to face murder charges in a 2002 double killing there.
Richard Conte, 61, had expressed a desire to fight extradition to Conway, Ark., in two earlier hearings, but on Wednesday he ran out of options.
He is suspected of killing the first husband of his estranged wife, whom he was convicted of kidnapping and holding captive at his Clear Creek Road home in 2002.
Conte received enough "good time" credit in prison that he served just nine years of a 15-year sentence for kidnapping his estranged wife from Utah, binding and drugging her and holding her captive for two days in his Clear Creek Road home in June 2002.
The couple had been married only 90 days before Lark Gathright-Elliott filed for divorce. When officers found Gathright-Elliott chained to Conte's bed, they also noted a map on Conte's computer with directions to Carter Elliott's home in Conway, Ark., and a list of police scanner frequencies for Conway.
Carter Elliott, 49, and Robertson, 25, were found dead in Elliott's Conway home on May 18, 2002. Each man had been shot execution-style, once in the head, according to police.
Investigators were at a loss for a suspect until Conte was arrested for the abduction of his estranged wife.
Now, nine years after the killings, Conway prosecutors have charged Conte with the two slayings.
It's not yet known when Conte will be transferred to Arkansas.
