130 YEARS AGO

John Fountain, the clothing thief, while working in a gang in charge of William Riddler in the southern part of the city, yesterday made an attempt to escape, but was soon recaptured and now will work on the street with a chain and ball ornament. Mr. Cameron reports Sheriff Williams is resting easily and that chances are now more in favor of his ultimate recovery. Raycraft is in jail unable to secure bail.

100 YEARS AGO

Bud Kinkead of Fallon came in this morning and with others is hustling beet ground for the Fallon factory. A trip to Carson Valley and other nearby sections will be visited and arrangements made forplanting.

70 YEARS AGO

The Warren Engine Company now has a new combination fire truck, a Mack 505 specifically designed for protecting ranches and farms.

Use of the truck will be limited to farmers and ranchers that have a sump available for pumping water such as a pond.

50 YEARS AGO

Debra Ann Berning celebrated her ninth birthday recently at a party in the Iris Street home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. Duane Berning. Debra and her guests enjoyed games during the afternoon and then enjoyed a traditional birthday cake.

20 YEARS AGO

The Carson City volunteer search and rescue team recently incorporated and will provide improved training sessions for Nevada law enforcement officers.

10 YEARS AGO

Two Carson City women are fighting breast cancer by walking the 60-mile Avon Breast Cancer 3-day walk from San Jose to San Francisco.

• Trent Dolan is the son of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.
