Fred Turnier has been hired as director of community development for the City of Reno and will begin work May 21.
Turnier succeeds Bill Thomas, who was promoted to assistant city manager in February.
Turnier has been serving as the interim city manager and community and economical development director for the City of Fernley. Turnier previously worked for the City of Reno as its planning manager from 2003 to 2005. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in economics and geography from the University of Nevada, Reno, and a master's degree in public administration from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
