Open enrollment for Nevada prepaid tuition program

(AP) - Parents, grandparents and other family members can lock in tuition costs for a child's college education at today's rates.

Open enrollment for Nevada's prepaid tuition program is under way through Feb. 28. The program allows parents and others to purchase contracts at existing tuition rates for children to attend any of Nevada's colleges or universities.

It's eligible for newborns to children in ninth grade, and parents or relatives can pay a lump sum or spread the payments over several years. Officials say the program also is transferable to public or private out-of-state colleges and universities, and can be transferred to other family members, including a first cousin.

Treasurer Kate Marshall says contract rates will remain the same this year, despite possible tuition increases.
