George T. Davis was in his store after hours when he heard the noise of something being weighed on his scales. He went to the spot and saw nothing. At the other end of the store he heard the same noise and went back to find a piece of cheese on the scale. He watched a while and noticed one rat putting the cheese on the scale and then two taking it off. Each piece of cheese weighed two pounds and four ounces. Why these animals would keep a record of such thievery's is a matter for a profound student of natural history to explain.

100 years ago

A great team of vaudeville, the three Harddig Bros., those fun circus clowns formerly with Barnum and Bailey's Greatest Show on Earth, have been engaged for a show at the Grand. Along with the show will be a series of photoplays including "A Circus Romance" by the Milano Co.

70 years ago

Editor and State Senator Walter Cox: "The guy who wrote that 'life begins at forty' didn't put in a hitch in the army. Saturday afternoon the army decided that life ends at thirty-eight and so the fathers and grandfathers who were prepared for the draft on the 28th of this month can go back to splitting kindling wood and drying the dishes. We will now open up a second front around the barber shop stove."

Christmas carols will echo down Carson Street tonight when the Ormsby County schools "Top 20" chorus, under the direction of Al Saliman, combine local talents with Santa Claus as part of the Chamber of Commerce Christmas Program.

Carson City School Board Trustees Kathleen Greene and Muriel Gamble were honored with a brief ceremony for eight years of service to the district.
