Obituary: Doris June Combs

Doris June Combs passed on in her home in Carson City, Nev. at age 79 from cancer on Dec. 22, 2012. She was a resident of Carson City for the past 13 years. She was a Christian and is now in the hands of her Maker. Doris was born in Ogden, Utah on June 1, 1933, daughter of William and Ruby Bateman. Her siblings, Bob and Marilyn were both older.

After marriage to John C. Combs on April 23, 1960, Doris spent the remainder of her life as a homemaker, raising her two children to be responsible and caring people, doing all the many things mothers do at home, at schools, sports fields and gyms, and working part-time when possible. She had a wonderful smile and marvelous personality that attracted everyone to her. She loved to serve those less fortunate. She always placed others first in all relationships. This resulted in many deep, lasting friendships in Fairfield, Hailey, and Ketchum, Idaho, Elko, Nev., Dutch John, Utah, and Jackson, Wyo.

Doris loved watching sports, but would only root for individuals and teams that demonstrated good sportsmanship and high moral character.

She had a special love and attraction for children, especially the smallest and most needy. This made her the "favorite aunt" of 16 nieces and nephews and their families, as well as children of her best friends.

Her children, Matthew John Combs and Becky Catherine Combs were the lights of her life and were followed by grandchildren, Connor Curtiss Edmonds and Kali Catherine Edmonds.

Doris was a joyful member of P.E.O. Chapters in Hailey, Elko and Carson City, and a loved member of St. John's and St. Peter's Episcopal Churches in Jackson and Carson City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Marilyn Norton; sister-in-law, June Bateman; brother-in-law, Walter Combs. Her survivors include her husband, John; children, Matt and Becky; son-in-law, Jim Edmonds; grandchildren, Connor and Kali; sister-in-laws, Marlene A. Combs of LaQuinta, Calif. and Eunice (Knauff) Combs of Temecula, Calif., and 15 nieces and nephews and their families.

A memorial service for Doris will be held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Carson City on Friday Dec. 28, 2012. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter's Church, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, the Alzheimer's Foundation, or the American Cancer Society.
