Granite Construction Co. of Sparks won a 2011 Quality in Construction Award from the National Asphalt Pavement Association for its work on a project at 5th and Ralston streets in Reno.
Working with engineers on the project, Granite developed a method of meeting the compaction specifications for the road without the use of vibratory rollers to avoid problems with water lines below the pavement.
