130 YEARS AGO

Sad tidings: Charles W. Friend yesterday received word that his mother, aged 76 years, had died very suddenly at Auburn, Calif. About a year ago she had a stroke, but had recovered. Her death was unexpected.

100 YEARS AGO

Henry Pursel, from Carson in 1863 and then to Smith Valley, died at his home ranch at that place last week. He was among the pioneers who first staked out farms in this section of the west. He was 83 years at the time of his death.

70 YEARS AGO

Alyn Carville, brother of Governor E.P. Carville, died in Reno early this morning of a heart attack. The deceased was a prominent member of the Standard Oil sales organization and had been the company's agent in Fallon and Lovelock before moving to Reno several years ago.

50 YEARS AGO

Claude Shipley, State Civil Defense Director, says the state office has been flooded with requests for the new survival booklet, "Fallout Protection, What to Know and Do about Nuclear Attack."

20 YEARS AGO

A regional vocational training center would be located at the old Stewart Indian School if local civic leaders can convince the Nevada Legislature.

10 YEARS AGO
