130 YEARS AGO

Captain Joe, the local chief of the Washoe tribe, informs the Appeal that there is a lady nearly 150 years old living on the outskirts of Carson. She has not been on Carson street for nearly 20 years. Her grandson, 60, was one of General Fremont's guides when he crossed the plains some 40 years ago.

100 YEARS AGO

The selection of a jury in the gambling cases in Virginia City is as remote as it ever has been. Last night County Commissioners drew 200 additional names to be placed in the box. Judge Langan leaves for naturalization matters and with the Eikner murder case in Yerington, the cases will go over for an indefinite period.

70 YEARS AGO

Only nine simple questions will be asked of men registering for the selective service this month. They will be asked their name, place of residence, mailing address, telephone number, age in years and date of birth, place of birth, name of person that will always know their address, employer's name and address and place of employment.

50 YEARS AGO

Gov. Grant Sawyer abdicated his office for the day yesterday in favor of a 15-year-old Eagle Scout, Dean Bender of Reno.

The Humane Society of the United States is pressing a judge to impose the maximum sentence on three men charged in a high-profile wild horse shooting case.
