Lawmakers name firm to find candidates for Malkiewich's job

Ralph Anderson & Associates of Incline Village was selected Wednesday to search for candidates to replace Legislative Counsel Bureau Director Lorne Malkiewich.

Malkiewich has announced plans to retire before the 2013 Legislature. He has been head of LCB since 1994.

He has said he plans to leave by October but that he could be gone earlier than that if offered an attractive position. Malkiewich recommended that lawmakers have the new director in place by summer so he can help with the transition.

Anderson will be paid $24,775 to conduct the search and present lawmakers with three to six finalists to be interviewed.

Members of the committee chaired by Sen. Mo Denis, D-Las Vegas, made it clear they want to move quickly. They asked Malkiewich to talk with the Anderson group about how fast they can produce a list of finalists.

The contract does not cover the cost of bringing finalists to Carson City for interviews, but Malkiewich said that may not be a problem because there is a chance at least one or two finalists will be from in-house.
