Obituary: Edward Abowd

Edward Abowd passed away on February 13, 2012 at the age of 91. Abowd was a well known and well loved resident of Carson City for the last 25 years. Ed, also affectionately known as Uncle Eddie, ran a successful shoe shine business inside the Ormsby House and later the Carson Nugget for years. His huge smile, twinkling blue eyes and undeniable charm made him a popular man around town, nearly everyone knew and loved Ed.

After serving in the US Coast Guard, Abowd lived in the San Francisco Bay area, joining other family members in the restaurant business. His often colorful career led him to southern California where he worked in the restaurant business and also as a security guard at Universal Studios, a job he loved.

He made his way to Carson City in 1986 and went to work for his brother, Paul Abowd at Adele's Restaurant and Lounge. He continued to work at Adele's for many years.

Ed loved life and lived it well. He will be missed.

He is survived by his son William Abowd of Laguna Niguel, California, grandson Jason Abowd, his brother Paul Abowd of Reno, his sister Cyrina Elissondo of San Ramon, California and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, February 21st at 9am at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Carson City.
