100 YEARS AGO

For the past week a gang of "dope fiends" has been hanging around Elko, and yesterday Constable Onderkirk arrested them on the charge of robbery after they looted a room at the Telescope Hotel. They are now having free lodging at the county hotel, where work is a stranger.

70 YEARS AGO

A local high school pupil jailed last night admitted to breaking into the HiWay Service Station and taking a 5-cent slot machine. The youth was observed carrying the slot machine from one backyard to another until he noticed police approaching.

Civic leaders launch a "Bricks for the Brewery" fundraiser to produce $75,000 for the rehabilitation of the Carson Brewery Building. The Brewery Arts Center needs more than $400,000 to complete renovation of the 128-year-old building.

It's going to be another dry year unless Nevada gets a big dose from an incoming storm.
