Wildcats split two more against North Idaho

COUR D'ALENE - The WNC Wildcats on Saturday split their second double-header in two days against North Idaho College, winning the day's opener, 4-3, before dropping the final contest of the series, 7-4.

The Wildcats finished the trip at 11-14 overall and 6-5 in conference.

In the first game, WNC jumped out to the lead in the second inning when Jordan Thomas walked, stole second and was forced home on three consecutive walks. The Wildcats never lost the lead, adding two more runs in the top of the third on Taleas Marble's homer. They added an insurance run in the fifth, when Melanie Pfeiffer singled, advanced to second on a ground out, stole third and scored on a wild pitch.

Starter Alexia Alley got the victory. Marble went 2-4, and Niki DiSera and Ali-Marie Lostra also had hits.

In the second game, Pfeiffer went 3-4 with a run scored, and Marble was 2-3 and scored a run. Thomas added the other hit.

The Wildcats have been road warriors this season, with this their fifth away weekend.

"I am very pleased with the way this team had played on the road," said WNC coach Leah Wentworth. "It is extremely difficult for any team, at any level, to stay competitive on the road. We have shown a lot of character, bouncing back from tough losses to holding on to victories with pressure late in games.

"I look forward to a home series this weekend."
