Smash the record: A little brown horse attached to a buckboard, was endeavoring to smash the record or the vehicle by losing all the sweat and stray breath he could gather, using various macadamized crossing as a spring board to beat the icicles out of a canvas tent that was tied on to the hind end of the barouche. Reaching the prison road he turned the breeching to the setting sun and was warming his feet on a hot box.

Hollywood Roundup: Warner Brothers reports its first mock air raid a success when sirens sent 3000 employees hurrying to four air raid centers. Only a few knew that this was a test. When the warning sounded Bette Davis, James Cagney, Dennis Morgan and Jane Wyman were on set working and followed other employees into the designated shelter.

First Baby of 1982: Diane Macall was born Friday at Carson Tahoe Hospital. Jeanette and father, Peter, are the winners of the Carson City Merchants' 29th annual First Baby Contest of 1982.

Kenneth T. Furlong has announced his intention to run for sheriff. The 44-year old Nevada Division of Investigation detective and retired Air Force special agent said, "I feel good at the end of the day, and I am enthusiastic to go back to work in the morning."
