Temperance: There is a town out in Indiana where temperance people persist in abolishing the liquor saloons by means of dynamite. One courageous proprietor threatens to open another and another until he is killed, or the town is no longer inhabitable.

Superstition: In many Eastern cities a superstition exists that if a horseshoe is concealed in the money drawers of a business, it will bring good luck.

70 YEARS AGO

The first certifications for new rubber were made by the Ormsby county tire rationing board - Carson Ice & Fuel company was certified for one inner tube to be used on an ice and fuel truck and one tire and one tube was issued to the Virginia-Truckee Transit Company for the use on a transit bus.

50 YEARS AGO

Photo caption: Carson youths boarded buses to attend the first week of skiing under the sponsorship of the Carson Recreation ski program for nine weeks if snow is available. Ski classes are at Mt. Rose and the Reno Ski Bowl skiing areas.

Pete Livermore, A & W franchise-owner, sold his lease and closed the restaurant on Highway 50. A new Jimboy's Tacos franchise is planned for the location.
