Gardnerville artist displays work through Jan. 31

Gardnerville artist Anne Armijo is showing artwork at the Copeland Cultural Art Center, 1572 Highway 395 in Minden, through Jan 31.

Her watercolor, acrylic and mixed-media paintings capture local scenes, birds and flowers from an unexpected viewpoint.

"It's a wonderful opportunity," Armijo said of the show. "I love nature, and I love Carson Valley. I enjoy the landscape and the skies are fabulous."

An artist reception is 5 to 7 p.m. Friday with light refreshments served.

Armijo serves on the Carson Valley Art Association board and shows locally with it as well.

In her mixed-media pieces, Armijo adds wire to a painting so it looks as if the viewer is looking through a fence or a screen. She also adds beadwork to her pieces.

She recently received an honorable mention from the Delicato's Fine Art show in Manteca, Calif., for her work "Marching Momentos," a landscape scene of Virginia City.

"I felt very honored," Armijo said. "My goal this year is to enter a lot more shows outside the area."

Armijo's hand-dyed silk scarves and eyeglass cases can be seen at East Fork Gallery, 1503 Highway 395 N. Suite K, in Gardnerville.

A percentage of nd all donations benefit the Carson Valley Arts Council.

John Humphrey is showing his wildlife and landscape photographs in the center gallery.
