Obituary: Glenice Jean Martin

Glenice Jean Martin, 69, passed away January 2, 2012. She was born January 2, 1943, in Turlock, Calif., to Roy and Olga Martin.

Glenice graduated from Calif. State University, Stanislaus, with a degree in U.S. history. In 1965 she joined the U.S. Army, serving in Germany, Korea, Washington, D.C. and Texas. She retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 1985. She was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Army Distinguished Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal.

After moving to Washoe Valley in 1986, Glenice became active with the Washoe Valley Landowners Association, serving on the board of directors and as secretary for many years. Her goal was to protect the rural nature and natural beauty of the Valley. The many people she worked with at the WVLA, Nevada Land Conservancy, and Citizens Advisory Boards will all miss her.

Glenice enjoyed working on genealogies and reading histories and biographies. She loved the opera and especially Reno's wonderful one. Glenice also loved dogs and had a special place in her heart for basset hounds and cardigan welsh corgis.

At her request, no services will be held. Donations in her honor can be made to Nevada Land Conservancy and the Nevada Opera.
