Obituary: Jacob Robert Owens

Jacob Robert Owens, 30, passed away January 25, 2012 in Reno, Nevada. Jake was born February 23, 1981 in Reno, Nevada to Walter and Rita Owens. He attended Carson High School, graduating in 1999, where he was captain of the football team, and also a member of the stunt team. He then attended Sierra College in Rocklin, CA where he also played football, graduating in 2002 with an AA degree. Jake was a loving, family-oriented man who also had a wide range of interests. He raced diesel trucks and was active in mixed martial arts. He enjoyed weightlifting since the age of 14, holding all of Carson High's weightlifting records throughout High School. His love of animals led to a successful breeding program for his favorite breeds; the Perro de Presa Canario Mastiffs, and Old English Bull-dogs. Jake worked as the Purchasing Manager at his family's business, Owens Precision in Carson City. He also attended St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.

Jake will be dearly missed and survived by his parents, Walter and Rita Owens; his two sisters, Kristine and Stacie Owens; his maternal grandmother, Lorraine Reynolds; and his paternal grandparents, Fred and Peggy Raymond; along with a large extended family and an incredible number of loving friends, including his beloved canine Zsa Zsa.

There will be a Celebration of Life honoring Jake Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 12:30pm at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Carson City.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of final arrangements.

In memory of Jake, donations can be made to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada.
