Corrections officer stabbed at Warm Springs

A corrections officer was stabbed by an inmate just before 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Warms Springs Correctional Center, a men's medium-security prison in Carson City.

"It appears to be non-life threatening," said Steve Suwe, public information officer for the Nevada Department of Corrections. "An inspector general investigator is on the scene. We won't know more until that investigation is concluded."

The officer was taken by Care Flight to Renown Medical Center in Reno, Suwe said.

Suwe did not have exact statistics, but said it is the first officer assault at Warm Springs he can remember in the 25 years he's worked for the prison system.

"It's really rare," he said. "It's typically a mellow yard, but you can't know what anyone's going to do at any given time."

Updates will be added at nevadaappeal.com as they become available.
