Carson 12s drop opener

Two five-run innings were enough to carry Sparks Centennial to an 11-9 win

over Carson City in the 11-12 District 1 All-Star tournament Sunday at

Governors Field.

Sparks Centennial scored five in the third to wipe out a 3-1 lead, and then

added five in the bottom of the fifth to break open a tight 6-5 game and

take an 11-5 lead into the sixth inning.

Carson fought hard in the sixth, sending nine batters to the plate and

scoring four runs before being retired.

With one out, Jonny Randall walked and moved to second on a single by Kyle

Glanzmann. Brandon Gagnon followed with an infield single to load the

bases. A single by Abel Carter scored a run to make it 11-6. After Jerry

Thomas was caught looking at a third strike, Daniel Morrison hit a double to

deep center to score two runs and make it 11-8. Jayson Artz kept the inning

going with a run-scoring single to make it 11-9. Nico Salm grounded to

second to end the inning and the game.

Carson actually out-hit Sparks Centennial 14-13, but eight of those hits

came in the first three innings.

After Lincoln Turner homered off Glanzmann in the first, Carson came back

with three runs and five hits in the second. An error and singles by

Glanzmann and Landon Truesdale accounted for the runs. Gagnon, Artz and Salm

also hit safely in the inning.

Sparks took a 6-3 lead in the bottom of the third, as Joey Brown¹s three-run

homer was the big blow in the five-run inning.

Carson made it 6-5 in the bottom of the fifth on a two-out single by Artz.

That set the stage for Sparks¹ second five-run outburst of the contest.

The Carson City 9-10 all-stars lost to Truckee, 16-3, Sunday night. The loss sends Carson to the consolation bracket. They play at 8 p.m. Monday
