SILVER DOLLAR: To the Carson City Board of Supervisors, for moving apace with the wording for a ballot proposal to raise the sales tax to finance the City Center library/plaza project. Whether you support the $28 million project or not, putting it on the ballot was the right thing for the board to do.
WOODEN NICKEL: To the cretins who tagged Seeliger Elementary School this week with graffiti. What a pointless act of destruction, targeting an institution populated by our most impressionable young residents.
SILVER DOLLAR: To the legions of photographers who chronicled the passing of Venus over the face of the sun this week. The event is a rarity, and it's great to have the images to reflect upon and for astronomers to study for decades to come.
SILVER DOLLAR: To the RSVP program for handing out coupon books that area seniors may spend on produce at the Carson City Farmers Market, which is open from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. every Saturday this summer at 3rd and Curry streets downtown.
The booklets, which contain 15 coupons worth $2 each, will be available to seniors from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
