Training set on new building energy codes

The Nevada State Office of Energy will offer free training for the new residential and commercial building energy codes that go into effect on July 1. The code changes affect architects, contractors, engineers and builders who operate in Nevada.

Ken Baker, who has worked with building efficiency since 1978 and codes and standards since 1986, will teach the training sessions on July 10 and July 11 at NV Energy's Reno headquarters at 6100 Neil Road. The courses run from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and again from 1 to 5 p.m. The July 10 training covers commercial codes, while the July 11 training focuses on residential provisions of the conservation code. Topics include building envelopes, mechanical systems and electrical power and lighting requirements.

The free training sessions are being offered on the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code, which was adopted by Nevada to ensure design and construction requirements for energy efficiency.
