Lyon County deputies arrest La. fugitive in Fernley

Marcus P. Dupuis, a prison escapee from Louisiana, was arrested in Fernley this afternoon, a Lyon County sheriff's deputy said.

Dupuis, 19, of Lafayette, La., was wanted by the U.S. Marshals Service after walking away from a minimum-security prison about six months into a five-year sentence on marijuana charges.

He was found at the Pilot Travel Center in Fernley Friday afternoon with his dog and two other people after Lyon County sheriff's deputies received a tip from Carson City deputies that he was there, Lyon County Deputy Sean Shannon said. U.S. Marshals believed he was heading for Carson City and was possibly armed. Neither Dupuis or the other two were armed Friday, Shannon said.

Lt. Jack Lightfoot of the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office said Dupuis walked away during a work-release program in Lafayette on Sept. 15.
