Carson GOP makes mockery of party

The Carson County Republicans held their convention on March 10. Their website states, "Seeks to preserve and protect the dignity, rights, and liberties of the individual in promoting sound, honest, ... within the structure of the Constitution of the United States of America, the State of Nevada, and the GOP."

They failed to do this at their venue in Carson City and they failed miserably. The Carson City GOP, with Bud Southard, Lori Bagwell, Jay Baldwin and Carol Howell, did a fabulous job of disenfranchising entire groups of Republicans.

A complete mockery of the Republican Party was made by forcing everyone to give up their secret ballot and their rights to this. That is right, folks, if you want to be a part of the Republican Party in Carson City, you now have to give up who you voted for to participate, not to mention discussion of platforms. I repeat, you aren't allowed to have a secret ballot.

Is anything sacred anymore? We need every Republican to defeat Barack Obama. I know the people who gave up their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor are rolling over in their graves.

Nevada can be player in pro-life debate

We need to face the reality that Barack Obama will be re-elected in November, a president for the next four years who not only is pro-choice but has blocked the prosecution of any doctor who spoils the procedure and terminates the life of the fetus outside the womb, infanticide.

The U.S. House of Representatives has narrowed the abortion fight by attacking Planned Parenthood with HR3, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act. This is a legislative mistake. Obama has promised to veto any attempt to deny federal funding of abortion. Also, it's not productive to ruin America's best free-from-charge woman's health care provider.

Should we stop paying taxes to prevent the government from using our money to pay for abortions? That could get pro-lifers into trouble.

Outlaw abortion in the Supreme Court? Obama controls the court with his right to appoint judges, inevitably he will, at least three, all pro-choice, during his next term.

Roe v. Wade allowed states the discretion to decide whether or not to allow abortion on demand. Therein lies an opportunity to choose life for the unborn. This fight can be won here in Nevada. Most of our law makers are pro-life.

'Once Upon a Mattress' was outstanding

This weekend, I had the pleasure of watching Wild Horse Children's Theater's production of "Once Upon a Mattress."

I was absolutely blown away. The singing, the dancing, the acting, the costumes, the set - every part of the play was just outstanding. We have such talented youth in our community.

Please, support these amazing teenagers and treat yourself to a fun-filled, wonderful show at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada.

Stop with the landscaping and finish the freeway

Why are we spending untold dollars on ore carts and tracks that go nowhere when the freeway seems to be at a standstill? In these difficult economic times, it seems to me that there is a lot of money being spent on stuff that is probably going to be stolen, vandalized and graffitied.

Let's get real and spend the money on things that are more necessary, like making the freeway useful instead of decorated and going nowhere.
