Lender plans regional office in Reno

Jason Brothers was within days of signing a five-year lease on office space in Salt Lake City when he convinced his company to take another look at Reno.

The results of his last-minute pitch: Supreme Lending, a Dallas-based company, plans to open an office in Reno that will provide residential mortgage lending in five western states Nevada, California, Arizona, Oregon and Washington.

The regional office is expected to employ about 20 initially, says Brothers, regional director of sales for Supreme Lending.

The company is looking for office space, beginning the licensing process and recruiting mortgage-lending professionals in northern Nevada, Brothers said last week.

A substantial part of Supreme Lending's business comes from residential refinancing, Brothers said, and the wide reach of the regional office will result in northern Nevada purchase-money loans accounting for only for about 20 percent of its volume.

After working as a mortgage banker for other firms in northern Nevada beginning in 2003, Brothers moved to Utah and joined Supreme Lending after the market cooled in the Reno-Sparks area.

But he missed Reno and wasn't comfortable with the thought of a long-term commitment to living and working in Salt Lake City.

"It's a proud thing for me to be able to bring jobs to Reno," he said.
