Relationships lead Q&D to Scheel's job

Q&D Construction of Sparks last year began construction of a massive Scheel's building in Sandy, Utah, and the job shows the importance of developing and maintaining personal relationships in the construction industry.

Although Q&D didn't build the Scheel's in Sparks, the company built the rest of the Legends at Sparks Marina project for RED Development.

During course of the years-long buildout, Q&D founder Norm Dianda forged a strong relationship with Scheel's Chief Executive Officer Steve Scheel, which led to the contract.

Q&D is pursing an additional Scheel's project with the company, says Tim Kretzschmar, vice president of building for Q&D construction.

"It's been a great relationship to have," Kretzschmar says.

Q&D is subcontracting most of work for the project in Utah, but it's keeping many key office employees in Sparks busy. The 220,000-square-foot sports mega-store is scheduled to open in September.
