Vice presidential hopeful Paul Ryan urged the faithful to bring their friends, family members and anyone else "like minded" to the polls saying he and Mitt Romney need all the help they can get if they are to bring the nation real leadership, not just promises.
Ryan made the plea in a 13-minute speech at the Reno airport in what could be described as a campaign version of a drive-by - one of several on his self-described "barnstorming" agenda for Monday.
He said President Obama four years ago "made all these wonderful promises," including cutting the deficit in half, creating jobs and bridging the partisan gap.
He charged that none of that has happened.
"So what we see now is an administration and a presidency littered with broken promises," said Ryan. "The deficit is doubled. It's the most partisan atmosphere we've seen in decades. He didn't bring people together. He divided people.
"For so many Americans, that American dream we all think about is slipping father away from people," he told the crowd. "Whether you're American by chance or by choice, the American dream is still there. We simply need to elect leadership to turn it around."
Ryan said to do that, "we've got to cut spending; we've got to balance the budget; we've got to get government under control."
But he said whether Romney wins all comes down to whether his supporters in Nevada and other swing states get everyone they know to the polls.
He said Americans nationwide "are looking at you to cast your vote for legitimate change."
"Together we're going to fix this," he said. "Together we're going to get this mess cleaned up."
